Father's Day Poster (Funny)

Father's are just as special as Mother's. Seriously they are. Knowing that then, why do I always tend to migrate toward funny, if slightly inappropriate gift ideas for Father's Day.

On Mother's Day the gifts are highly sentimental and very warm and fuzzy. I have made sentimental Father's Day gifts before, for instance, these Framed Scrabble Photos for The Hubs. One year I also made my own dad a set of t-shirts with sayings attributed to him on the front. You know like Chili Dogs Only Bark at Night.

So yes, sometimes I go warm and fuzzy and sometimes I lean more toward humor.

This would be a funny year. My dad is in public service. He deals with a lot of people day in and day out. As you can imagine sometimes those people are less than pleasant. Heck, he deals with us, his children a lot, and as you can imagine sometimes we are less than pleasant.

So that lead to this poster. I had pinned something similar to my Gifts for Others board. I wanted a poster and I wanted it to be a little more simple. I opted for navy and white, because yes we all know I love blue and white.

Right click on the image to save it to your computer. This poster is best printed off in sizes 8x10 or larger. I printed off a 16x20. The ladies from the print shop thought this poster was quite witty. They even mentioned maybe they hang one up there.

Sorry ladies, this one is for my dad so that everyone can see it the minute they walk into my dad's office. Hopefully this will preempt a lot of turdy behavior.

Happy Father's Day to all the funny dads out there.

TEE-rific Dad Father's Day Gift

Need a last minute Father's Day gift?

And by last minute, I currently mean tomorrow is Father's Day. That kind of last minute. Goosh. I am really cutting it close this year. Last year I was WAY on top of the ball and busted out three Father's Day gifts. This Camping Gift, Grilling Gift, and Soda Pop Gift. This year not so much. Which is why this oh-so-lovely blog post is going live the afternoon of the day before Father's Day.

The good news, is thanks to Pinterest even if you have already got Father's Day gifting all wrapped up...hahaha, wrapped up...you can just pin this idea for next year. So you can look at it two ways. First, this if for those who (like me) procrastinated Father's Day and need an easy last minute gift. Second, this if for those who are prepared and are already planning for next year.

Either way, I got ya covered.

For this Tee-rific Dad Father's Day Gift all you need is:

A t-shirt or two.

(these shirts all from Target)

You will need this TEE-rific Dad Tag, which I of course made in PicMonkey. Their fonts rock my world, AND did you know that now with their Royale Membership you can now use your own fonts. What?! Yep it is true.

(just right click, save as image, open in Word, resize if needed, and print off)

Some fabric scraps or yarn.

Simply fold up the t-shirts and tie the fabric scraps around. Attach the Tee-rific Dad Tag and you are good to go.

Now just like that you have a perfectly awesome Father's Day Gift great for planning ahead or last minute gifting.

Thanks for reading!

No Sew Father's Day "Best Pop" Banner

Now that the Momma's have been celebrated, the Dad's are up next for their time in the spotlight.

Here is a really easy and fast Father's Day decoration.

Like ridiculously fast. Oh and hey, it is a no sew banner. Win. Win.

A few years ago I threw The Hubs a "Best Pop" popcorn Father's Day party. One of the things I made was this popcorn bag banner.

I bought a pack of popcorn bags from my local party store and then I raided my fabric stash. Put it all together and a no-sew banner is made.

Start with a long piece of yarn. Cut up the fabric in strips. Tie the fabric on. I tied about 7 pieces on to start before I taped...yes I said taped...the first bag to the yarn.

I just repeat the taping and tying until the banner is as long as I want it.

If you want to go with the whole "Best Pop" theme, then you can add some bottled pop and a few bowls of popcorn to the party.

There ya have a fun and easy way to tell your dad he is the "Best Pop" you know.

Father's Day Gift: Master of the Grill

Hi friends! I feel like it has been while since I have shown my face around here.

Summer is in full swing and that means crazy, full-steam-ahead, jam-packed schedules. I basically don't know which way is up. By the end of the day (which of course is later during the Summer), I plop myself, exhausted, on the couch and I sit there pretending I am not asleep.

So that is why I am not around as much.

But I am here today to share number three of number four Father's Day Gifts idea. I already shared a World's Best Pop and a CAMP Be Beat gift idea.

Today I have a Master of the Grill Father's Day Gift idea for you.

I mean what dad doesn't love to cook raw meat over an open flame? It is kind of a tale as old as time.

Man. Meat. Flame.

For this Master of the Grill gift, first I made an apron.

I bought a simple apron from a craft store. I found a basic grill image and then traced it onto freezer paper. Then I cut the image out and used it as a stencil to paint on the image with black fabric paint. I used iron on adhesive and white jersey fabric for the letters. I figured the phrase I Turn Grills On  was very fitting for my oh-so-studly Hubby.

To the grilling apron I added a few new grilling utensils, some fancy BBQ sauces from a local specialty store,  a set of vintage looking condiment bottles and then I put them all in a Summery container.

I was planning on making a printable to attach to my gift, but then the heavens opened and the Grilling Gods led me to this very appropriate and quite manly meat DAD card.

Could you die? Seriously. I couldn't have found a more perfect card. I would have had to mold giant piles of raw beef to even come close.

Gratefully someone else handled the piles of beef for me.

Less than a week to Father's Day and I only have one more idea to share with you. So exciting!

CAMP Be Beat: Father's Day Gift Idea

I am super excited about this Father's Day gift.

This year I am doing a couple of themed gifts for Hubby.  This is the second one. The first one was The World's Best Pop Father's Day gift.

For the second theme, I chose CAMPING. I gathered together a few fun and cheap camping items.

Then I made up this super cute...er...I mean...manly drawstring bag (which I am more than just a little in love with).

I put it together similar to how I made the Angry Birds Drawstring Bag...minus the Angry Bird face of course!

I cut the shirt so the buttons and the pocket would fit on the front of the bag. Then I used another old t-shirt to line the inside. The drawstring is some old rope I found laying around Hubby's tool bench.

I packed it full of the S'mores makings.

I printed off a tag I made in PicMonkey. I did a Google Image search for "Retro Camping" and picked an image to use for the background. I cropped it, added a border and my text.

My second favorite thing just after the flannel drawstring bag is the camping catch phrase I came up with to go on the tag. I still giggle when I say it out loud to myself...

"A Dad like you just CAMP be beat."

Hehehe...

I piled everything on top of my flannel treat bag and then secured it with more rope. I even tied it in a square knot, 'cause I am a legit woodsman like that.

Then I attached my tag to the rope with a cloths pin.

Second Father's Day gift done.

Perfect gift for the avid, recreational, or backyard camper.

Father's Day Gift: World's Best Pop

Here in our house we think we have the world's best Dad...er uh Pop. This very special Pop has been warned to stay away from the blog today and any other day in the future that might be about gifts for his very fatheriffic self.

Back to our house and our bestest dad, well I am sure you feel the same way at your house.

Pretty soon there is a whole extra special day just to celebrate the one and only very special dad.

This year one of the things we are giving our dad is Soda...or Pop...

Soda...

Pop...

What do you say? Soda? Pop?

Me: Soda

Hubs: Pop

It is an on-going battle. Each of insisting we are the correct party.

For Father's Day (and only Father's Day) I will concede.

For Father's Day, it will be Pop. I gave a little hint about this project on Instagram. (Follow along @larissa_anotherday).

So for a Father's Day Gift, our World's Best Pop is getting a special crate of six different and unique bottles of soda. My boys had tons of fun picking out different soda, although I am pretty sure they only picked the soda according to the brightest color.

After they picked out the soda, I bought a plain crate and some spray paint.

I used some retro fonts and cut my phrase out of vinyl.

I spray painted the box white first. Then I applied the vinyl. Then I spray painted several coats of red over the vinyl.

After the paint dried, I peeled off the vinyl.

Then I sanded the crate to make it look a little more vintage.

I loaded up the  crate with some shredded paper and safely nestled the bottles in the crate. I printed off a little tag listing the flavors, so he knows all the yummy flavors he is getting.

The boys are already way to excited to give it to him and I am going to be lucky if this stays a secret until Father's Day.

I have a few other Father's Day gifts I am excited to show you. All really easy. All themed based (you know me and my love of themes). All made with love for our Bestest Dad.

So stay tuned!

Thanks for reading!

Father's Day Kid's Art T-Shirts

Father's Day is um...yeah, tomorrow. Sharing a last minute idea with you...trust me it is easy enough to pull off today if you need a last minute gift. It has been a last minute kind of week around here.

Hubby has been warned not to ruin his surprise and read this post. All of you who are not Hubby...

READ ON.

I am still working on a gift or two...however, my kids stepped up their game and got their presents all done. Okay, so maybe I helped a little. Still don't think that counts as my gift though. Don't worry I have got myself some cool ideas. Now I just need to try and find the time. Bean might make that hard.

So I came across this method of transferring a drawing onto a t-shirt and I was pretty excited to try it. The secret...

SANDPAPER.

Say what?!?

Yup sandpaper.

Here is what you will need to gather:

t-shirts (white does show the drawing the best)
fine grit sandpaper
good crayons
parchment paper
iron

Have your kiddos draw a picture on the gritty side of the sandpaper. Make sure to tell them to press super hard. For little hands I would go over their drawings after they are done.

Let them draw what they want...

Balloons. People.

Master of the Dark Side.

Or even a famous phrase said by dear old dad.

Remember that the drawing or words will need to be transposed if you want them to show up the right way. My boys' drawings were fine as drawn except for the words on Middle's which I helped him right backwards.

Once the kids are done with their drawings, place the sandpaper with the drawing side down on the shirt where you want the image to be.

Place a piece of parchment paper over the sandpaper and then run an iron firmly over the sandpaper, with the iron on the cotton setting. Make sure to iron thoroughly in order for the drawing to transfer over completely.

After the image is transferred over, place a paper towel over the image and run an iron over it again to remove extra wax. Then run it in the dryer for 20 minutes to set.

When you wash it for the first time, was alone.

Hope this last minute idea helps you out.

Father Knows Best Tees

Does your dad have a few lines that he always says? You know his own little words of wisdom, or catch phrases, or yes even punch lines. Those sayings that if you said to a sibling, said sibling would be able to finish what you were saying.

My Dad has a TON of phrases that will always make me think just of him. He is a pretty laid back comical guy, so a lot of his sayings are the perfect mix of truth and humor. This year for a Father's Day gift I decided to put a couple of his famous phrases onto tees. Of course using my Silhouette...best toy ever.

Now, remember that I said my dad was a bit of a comedian when you see these shirts. They are highly hilarious and only sentimental in the fact that these phrases will always remind his children of him...in other words, these phrases aren't making a Hallmark card anytime soon.

First Dad Phrase: "Chili dogs only bark at night"

hehehe...pretty self explanatory

Second Dad Phrase: "I brought you into the world, I can take you out of it"

we heard this one whenever we sassed him...so basically we heard it A LOT rarely.

These shirts were super easy to make. They also were a lot of fun.

Here is the breakdown of what I used just in case you guys were curious:
2 tees from Target
black and red heat transfer vinyl
fonts- hamburger heaven and BEBAS (both downloaded of the internet)
white knit scrap for hotdog shape

What does your father always say? Is he a funny guy? Is he more on the serious side? Use something he always says to make a personalized gift.

My dad is going to LOVE this.

Father's Day Ideas

Father's Day is coming. Before I know it, it will be here. I made Hubby these frames last year. I personally feel you can never go wrong with sentimental. That being said, I would also like to get Hubby something special/fun/manly/he really wants. Something not techy or video game-esq...since he is the wise one in that area and I would only end getting something lame, out of date or for WAY too much money.

So today I put together a little "Things-You-Can-Get-The-Dads-in-Your-Life" or "TYCGTDiYL"...kidding. Let's just call it the Dad Gift Guide. Ahh much better. These are just a few things that spoke to me.

First, Sentimental.

Anything homemade with meaning behind it. Aka anything with photos, drawings, stickers, glued on macaroni, with the kids on it, made by the kids...you get the idea.

Next, Prints.

Anything you can order, print off and put in a frame. Something for him to hang in his office or put on his desk.

Dark Chocolate Raspberry Mallows

Okay wrapping up my idea list, last by not least, Stylish/Clothing

You ladies know that we use major holidays as an opportunity to get our Hubbies clothes we want them to wear, feigning innocence, never admitting that we don't like what they choose for themselves. So here are just a few simple things...nothing over the top. Things they won't fight you about wearing.

Canvas Shoulder Bag

Casual Summer Tees

Bow Ties-they are all the rage

And while we are in clothing, here is a shout out to the most popular, longest standing Father's Day gift EVER...

The necktie.

No harm in getting another one...just make sure it doesn't have a barbecue or a Grateful Dead bear on it and you should be good.

You would think after all my virtual window shopping I would know what I am getting Hubby. Still don't. I do however have some projects for the Grandpas...I will share soon.
