Photo Magnet Gift & Magnet Board Roundup

The holidays are officially just around the corner. That means that it is time for gift giving. Meaningful and personal gifts are my favorite gifts to give to family members, especially grandmas and grandpas.

I especially love photo gifts. This season my go-to holiday photo gift stop is Walmart Photo. They have a crazy variety of photo products. They have holiday cards, same day canvas, same day calendars, photo books, ornaments, mugs, blankets, totes, and the list just keeps going.

One of my favorite holiday photo gifts are these photo magnets.

I was able to go through and pick some of my favorite moments of the year and some special photos of my kiddos that I know Grandma will appreciate. I ordered half in the 4x6 and the other half in 3x4. I ordered them online and had them shipped to my house. Just like that. The great thing about Walmart's holiday photo gifts is that they are also easy to order and pick up at the store.

They have great quality products. Sometimes photo magnets are super flimsy. Not these. They are sturdy and the photo quality is gorgeous.

They look so great laid out in a mosaic pattern on this cute magnet board.

I thought it would be fun to add a magnet board to this photo gift. That way Nana has a way to display her photos.

I packaged these photo magnets in a simple brown goody paper bag.

The really cool thing is that even in the bag the photos stuck to the magnet board. So all I had to do was tie some ribbon around the board and BAM I had a present all cute and ready to give.

Such cute and high quality photo magnets really should have a cute place to display them. I found my magnet board at Hobby Lobby and it was 50% off, so basically it was a steal. This would be a SUPER easy magnet board to DIY too.

If you are thinking about giving some super cute photo magnets for a holiday gift, then you are probably looking for some cute ideas for magnet boards.

Look no further, here is a roundup of some of my favorite DIY Magnet Boards.

Give memories this holiday season. They really are the best gift to give. Walmart is a great source for giving photo gifts. Check them out. Get creative.

5 Ways to Encourage an Active Lifestyle For Your Kids

I have a secret. A hang-your-head kind of secret.

I was a super duper lazy loaf of a kid. Like I had the Disney Toon Afternoon schedule down. If I had the choice to go outside and play or stay inside and watch TV or read a book, then I always chose inside with my favorite show or book.

I didn't fully appreciate being active until I was in middle school. I joined the volleyball team. I got involved in some after school activities, which weaned me off of Disney Toon Afternoon (which at my age I should have already done, but alas who can help but loving Gummy Bears or Duck Tales).

Once I caught the active lifestyle bug, I was hooked. I love being active. A healthy active lifestyle is such an important thing to have. I decided as a young parent that I wanted my kids to love being healthy and active as much as I do.

Now I am a not-so-young parent of four boys. Encouraging kids to be active can be challenging and not as easy as I thought it would be. I have learned a couple of things, and I am sure I have many things to still learn.

However, I want to share some things I have learned over the years. Here are 5 Ways to Encourage an Active Lifestyle For Your Kids.

1. Limit Video Games and TV Time.

My kids could quite possibly spend every minute between getting home from school and going to bed watching TV and playing video games. One of the best things we have done as parents is to limit video games and TV. Most importantly, video games. We allow video games to be played only two days a week. For us that is Friday and Saturday. There are rules set in order for them to play video games on the given day. One of them is outside time.

2. Get Them Outside.

Get your kiddos outside. Whether it is in your yard, at the park, or on a walk. We have even taken our kids to a nearby elementary school to play. Have balls, bikes, or scooters available. My boys love to play football with each other and with friends. They also LOVE their bikes.

Worried about weather? We live somewhere pretty chilly, but we still find ways to go outside during the winter. Not every day. In fact, sometimes it is just once a week. Encouraging them to bundle up in their snow gear and build a snowman (okay who am I kidding they are getting in a snowball fight) will help keep the habit alive.

There are so many options to going outside. Sometimes it might take a sacrifice, but having your kids learn to choose outside instead of inside will keep them playing and moving.

3. Sign them up for sports.

My kids aren't naturally athletic. However, we have them sign up for a variety of sports and activities. We have them try lots of things. There are so many activities/sports available for kids to play at almost any age. There are the traditional team sports like baseball, soccer, football and basketball. There are individual sports like running, swimming, and golf. There is dance, karate, and gymnastics.

Sports are great because they give kids goals. They have practices that keep them active. Right now we allow our kids to try a variety to allow them to discover what activities they like the most. Playing sports give the kiddos a way to stay active that I don't have to monitor. They have coaches, teams, and practices.

4. Make it a family affair.

Encouraging your kids to be active is easier if they see you being active. Go on a walk around the neighborhood together. Do a race together. They have so many family friendly low key races. My boys and I got to do a really fun 1 mile mud run and obstacle course this Summer. Watching my boys run, climb, and crawl through that race.

My boys have done Insanity with me. My husband goes out back and plays football with our boys. We go on bike rides. If you like hiking, take your kiddos. Find something active you can do as a family. If you are active, your kids will be too.

5. Invest in activewear.

A couple of summers ago, one of my boys was playing big kid baseball for the first time. We got him ready for the baseball season by buying him baseball pants, shoes, a mitt, and a baseball hat. NONE of it was fancy, but it was perfect. We talked about if he dressed the part then he would try hard and play like a real baseball player.

It worked.

Over the last several years I have used that same train of thought with getting my kids to want to be active. I let them pick out shorts, shirts, and even some of those super cool tall socks. We watch for sales and we get basics. It makes my kids more invested in being active.

Another important investment is shoes. Since my kids play a variety of sports, I buy my boys a nice pair of running shoes or cross-trainers that they can use in multiple activities. When they have good shoes they want run faster. Good shoes also last longer and wear better. I have tried buying inexpensive shoes. They always wear out really fast and are not comfortable for my boys to wear.

My boys' new favorite shoes are these Nikes. I was able to find all four of my boys great pairs of Nikes, ALL on sale too, at JCPenney's. I have talked about my love for JCPenney before. JCP has an incredible selection of Active Lifestyle products for the whole family. My boys had the hardest time picking out which shoes they were going to get. There were just SO many to choose from, especially online.

When they came, the boys immediately put them on. Do you know what they did next? They went off running. Then they got on their bikes. Then they got out the football. All they wanted to do was run around and be active. Win!

JCPenney not only has shoes, but they also have tons of great activewear for your kids. You can find a great selection online or at your local store. We obviously really like the selection of shoes.

I know it sounds cheesy, but outfitting your kids in great activewear really does make them excited to be more active. Good activewear, especially shoes, is also better for them as they play sports.

Encouraging my kids to be active has helped them have healthy habits. I have found that these 5 simple things have helped me as a parent encourage my kids to have an active lifestyle.

Is there something that you do to help your kids be active? Leave me a comment and tell me what you do to help your kids be active and you will be entered in a sweepstakes to win a $100 JCPenney gift card.

Printable Lunch Bag Labels: Making School Lunch Fun

Back-to-School is right around the corner. A short corner for some of you. Thank heavens my corner is a little longer. Whatever the size of your corner, alas it is back to school time. Avert your kiddos eyes from this post if they are not ready to think about that yet.

I don't want a mob of school aged kids wielding torches and pitchforks on my front lawn.

Back to school means lots of things, but one of the things that always stresses me out a little bit is school lunches. I pack 90% of the lunches my kids will have during the school year. My kids just prefer home lunches. So home lunches they get.

I try to make lunches fun and to offer a bit of variety to what they might get. For this next school year, I am loving these individual milks from Shamrock Farms available at select Walmarts nationwide. The summer price on these milks is $1. A buck! That is great for lunch on the go now and it is a great price to add some variety to a school lunch with a fun a nutritious drink.

The fact that Shamrock Farms mmmmilk has 2%  strawberry, whole white, and 2% or whole chocolate milk just make the find even better. Shamrock Farms milks are pure, fresh, nutritious, and have no added hormones.

Plus how cute are these bottles?

I wanted to match how cute and fun these milks were by creating a fun lunch sack printable. I love printing on lunch sacks and, once you get the hang of it, it is really addicting. My kids won't have a lunch like this everyday, but on special occasions, like the first day of school, these lunch sacks are fun.

I created a few images and I am making them available for you to use.  I have given a tutorial on how to print on a lunch sack HERE. There is a little trial and error involved since every printer is different.

However, the basics are-

You need to save the images below to your computer as a JPEG.
Insert the image into a Word type document.
Adjust the size, and flip the image upside down.
Move the image on the page to where you want it.
Print on a paper lunch sack (every printer will allow this differently)

Once you figure out your printer, the possibilities are endless. Lunch can be fun forever more. Or at least on days you need to send a little extra love in their school lunch.

Like on the first day back to school. That first day can be rough sometimes. Nothing a cute lunch sack and some yummy milk can't fix.

We really love this milk. My boys just drink it right down with giant happy grins on their faces. Shamrock Farms milk is a great addition to our local Walmart. I totally think you will love it too. To celebrate the expanded distribution, Shamrock Farms is launching Roxie's Ultimate Back-To-School Sweepstakes. One lucky winner will receive nearly $5000 in gift cards to stock up on back-to-school supplies, groceries, and a new wardrobe. You can enter HERE.

They also have great collection of nutritious and protein-packed recipes that pair perfectly with these yummy milks. Some of Roxie's Midday Menu recipes are even perfect to go in a fun an healthy school lunch. Check out the Banana Rolls, the Fruit Kabobs, and the No Bake Energy Bites.
Tell me, "What do you like to pack in your child's lunchbox?”  Each comment will automatically be entered to win a $100 Walmart gift card.

Breakfast On the Go

I have said it before, mornings are crazy around here. This is due mostly to the fact that the Little Men have to catch the bus pretty early and well, frankly, I don't want to get up at the butt crack of dawn. So we sleep until the last possible minute, leaving barely just enough time to get them up, dressed, fed, and off to school.

Breakfast and putting on shoes are the two time suckers. While breakfast is an obvious place to use up time, don't ask me why putting on shoes is the other. There is no good reason. Notice I said putting on shoes, not finding them. The shoes are always there. I am this close to only buying slip on shoes.

So slip on shoes will solve that issue.

What to do about breakfast? What to do? What to do?

Well a portable breakfast of course. Cereal in a cup to me more precise.

Cereal in a cute cup nonetheless. These Kellogg's cereal cups are adorable. You guys know how I love myself some good packaging. They are easy to grab on the go. You just peel back the paper and start eating with or without milk. Half of my kids eat cereal with milk and the other half prefer cereal dry.
Either way these cups make it so I don't have to clean up any bowls. Thinking beyond the bowl means I can go back to bed one those sweet children of mine head out the door. Can I get a virtual high five?
"CLAP"
That was us high-fiving.
I did try to make our cereal-in-a-cup breakfast a little bit special by adding a coordinating plastic spoon and a fun patterned paper napkin. The cereal, spoons, and napkins all came from Walmart.  Package up the cereal the night before. Set out everything (but the milk of course) out on a tray.
That way when it is breakfast time all you have to do is shove the tray at them. Er, I mean stand lovingly with the tray in hand and offer them breakfast. Yes that is what I meant.
One might even have to hand it to them on the way out the door.
Have I said how great it is that these cups of cereal are easy to take on the go. They can even eat them at the bus stop.
No matter how the kiddos eat it, it is a time saver. They also make great snacks on the go too. Bean loved having his own cup of Fruit Loops just as a snack in the car on the way to the library.
So in our kitchen, on the way to the bus stop, or in the car we loved ourselves these cups of cereal.
With Summer coming school might be out, but that doesn't mean that our life isn't getting crazier. I am keeping lots of Kellogg cereal in a cup around. We have a pretty lengthy car trip coming up. You better believe I am packaging up some of these. These will help me make the most of my time and Make The Most of my Summer.

Goldfish Snack Math Sheets

All moms seek moments to connect with their kids. Sometimes it feels like there isn't enough time in the day between all the to-dos and the must-get-dones. Over the years I have learned that moments to connect with my kids do not have to be over planned or extravagant.

Moments to connect can be found in to-dos and the must-get-dones.

I found learning time can be a fun opportunity to connect with my boys. Sometimes homework and learning time is no fun because it can cause stress, boredom, and frustration. I decided why not fix that and make it a fun moment to connect.

I made these Snack Math Sheets. Then I gathered a few of the kids favorite flavors of one of their favorite snacks: Goldfish® crackers.

We used the Cheddar whole grain Goldfish crackers to do some Snackity Snack Snack Addition.

The color Goldfish crackers were perfect for working on classification and sorting.

This little man had so much fun making up his own addition problems, solving them, and of course eating a few.

For my slightly older boys I made up a number bingo sheet. I busted out the Goldfish grahams.

Nothing is more fun than getting a bingo. Well except eating the bingo.

Right now there is a Goldfish Tales campaign going on where you can share your favorite Goldfish cracker moment. You just need to go and visit GoldfishSmiles.com to find out more about their latest tale, details regarding the promotion, submissions, and a behind-the-scenes video of the making of their tale. To enter the Goldfish Tales entrants are asked to share a photo and story for a chance to win a case of product each month and an awesome trip to the U.S. location of the winner's choice, so that you can create more Goldfish Tales and of course more memories for your family.

In case you want to use a learning moment for your Goldfish Tale, I am providing these Snack Math Sheets for you to use with your own kiddos.

We had so much fun with this learning activity. It was fun to take a must-do and turn it into a moment to connect with my kids. I loved it because they were learning and having fun. They loved it because they were learning (even though they may not admit to it) and eating Goldfish crackers, one of their favorite snacks.

How do you like to connect with your kids? Little moments seem to be great times to connect. Tell me in a comment how you connect with your kids and you will be entered for a chance to win a $100 VISA Gift Card!
