Have Your Cake...Oh and You Can Eat it Too

Merciful Heavens. Last week was one of those weeks that leaves you exhausted, brain-dead, a little coo-coo-cachoo, and swearing on all that is holy that you will never do any of it again (sorry hubby that passes, it will probably happen again). I won't bore you with the list of what I either took on or got myself into...

Instead lets focus on this baby...

Cole's Golf Birthday Cake, to of course accompany Cole's Golf Birthday Party. This year Cole asked for a miniature golf party. I might have danced a little at the thought of not having to come up with something to do at home...crisis dodged when I couldn't find an indoor course and I thought I was going to have to build a course in my house...I found an indoor golf course, so all that I had to do was the CAKE, a little deco at home, and goodie bags.

Deco was simple-

a "green" table runner

brown square plates
brown cups
flag shaped goodie bags

Cole had a blast with his little man friends. From this picture you can tell we had our hands full! The golf course was a glow in the dark one, so good pictures were scarce.

After golfing, we came back home for lunch...

and cake.

My oldest little man isn't quite 6 yet. I still can't believe how old he is. We had a great day. I am glad he is ours. What fun to have boys.

Drum Roll Please

Introducing the cake o' birthday for Mister Jack...

Homemade fondant, 9+ different dye colors, 3 batches of cake, and unmentionable amount of hours spent later here is what I came up with for Jack's bday cake.

It didn't turn out quite like I had imagined in my head, but it'll do donkey it'll do (yeah I quote Shrek quoting Babe).

Jack loved it and that is all that matters.

He knew that he got the whole house part to himself...but after a couple attempts to break through the fondant, he gave the house to Cole and settled for a normal piece of cake.

On a much bigger side note-- today three years ago our little man Jack came into this world. It was the easiest labor I have had. He seemed in a rush to get here...and he hasn't stopped rushing since. Here are some things we love about Jack...

his impish grin
his 90 (or so) different facial expressions
"yes or no?"
how much he loves daddy
how hard he tries to be like Cole
how much he loves Case
drawing on his back
listening to him speak..."pwoppers (ploppers), pway (play), wunch (lunch)"
plays on his own
so active
how easily he says "thank you"
how much more easily he says "i love you mommy"

So corny, but time really does fly.

Party Robot Style...Last One

I know I already posted about the cake and the decor...but here is a photo recap of the actual party. Thanks to all of Cole's little friends. We had a blast! Of course he is already trying to plan next year...and while I did that last year, I have other things to focus on right now.

SO here is a little photo diary of Cole's party. The games we played were robot walk (like musical chairs crossed with a cake walk), decorating robot-shaped cookies, search for missing robot parts (which went into the Robot machine), the kids each became robots, and then robot command (Simon says with a flash light). I will not take credit for coming up with any of these games...thank the Internet!

Nothing Like a Robot Cake

What do you get after 8 hours, 6 different jars of frosting dye, 1 pkg of fondant, two hands perma dyed, arthritic old lady hands, 10+ trips back and forth from the fridge to harden frosting, blood (cut myself with serrated knife), sweat, and tears?
Mmm...Robot Cake

Not too shabby hey?

I took on this bad boy all by my lonesome this time so don't look too close at the star tipping job. I did not think it would take me as long as it did, but alas I finally finished the sucker at 3:00 in the am. I wish I could say that I went to bed after that, but the party prep required more of my attention party pictures to follow later.
