Dress Like Yoda He Shall

Meet our Little Yoda.

He is all ready to join his brother Baby Chewbacca and go trick-or-treating.

His entire costume is made from fleece. Good thing since we have recently had a snow storm.

My favorite part of his costume is the little Yoda hood.

The robe is pretty cute and cozy too.

Who knew Yoda had a silly side?

I have two days to get two costumes done...May the force be with me.

I am gonna need it.

Baby Chewbacca Costume

First...I just want to say thanks to all of you who left me comments and sent emails in response to our recent bleh week. It meant a lot to me that I could take some time, disappear and take care of my little family and that you guys would all be here when I got back.

So thank you, thank you, thank you.

Hopefully now that we are all on the mend I can buckle down and finish all our Halloween and birthday funtastic tasks.

I wanted to share with you our first family costume. The theme this year is Star Wars.

The teeniest tiniest costume in our family is this to die for...I mean TO.DIE.FOR. Baby Chewbacca.

Are you kidding me with how cute he is??

Happiest Wookie ever.

I knew this costume was going to take the most time, so I started my Halloween sewing parade with Baby Chewbacca. I made the costume out of fleece. I toyed with just leaving the fleece as is but I really wanted some kind of fur texture. So I cut strips of "fur" out of the fleece and sewed it on in rows. Instant fur.

Instant Wookie.

Instant cute.

Chewie wouldn't be Chewie without his bullet pack sash thingy mabob and the tiny pouch...yup those are the technical  names. I made the teeny tiny accessories out of felt.

One Baby Chewbacca costume done. Woohoo.

Now all I need to do is add our Yoda, Darth Vader, and Luke Skywalker and our Halloween will be complete.

I think I can, I think I can. Hahaha. Stay tuned!

Costumes 2012 Sneak Peak and a Costume Flashback

Sorry for my lack of posting last week. I have been up to no good...hehehe...

Yup, that is right, the official Costumes of 2012 sewing extravaganza has begun. Where for weeks I try to get the picture in my head to materialize from piles of fabric into actual costumes.

There is guessing and guessing, and dumb luck, and more guessing and eventually I end up with some costumes.

I am excited for this year's theme.

I have had it in mind since the last stitch was sewn on last year's costumes.

Can you guess from my sneak peak what might be in store?

I will give you some clues...

That is Bean's hairy-riffic costume pictured above.
The boys will all follow a theme.
Two oldest are fighting over the same costume, they both want to be on the same light side.
Little, well cute he shall be.

Have you figured it out yet?

Please do tell...

I also thought it would be fun to do a flashback of Halloween Costumes of years past. It was fun/horrifying to go back and see all my different labors of love. You will see in the most recent years, not only is my camera/photography better (do NOT judge the first few pictures, I am not sure I even knew what a DLSR was), but I also actually started sewing some of the costumes by 2010.

BUT every single year was a boat load of fun and of course they had to have a theme since I am more than just mildly obsessed with themes.

Enjoy the flashback, and enjoy a good laugh on me around the year 2004.

My Supers

Toy Story 3, Little Alien not pictured

Costumes of Astronomical Proportions
Alien, Astronaut, Shooting Star
My first major sewing attempt.

Classic Batman and Robin

Curious George and the Man in the Yellow Hat
Store bought and sewn for me.

Paiging Dr. McCutiePatootey.
Last Time Hubby and I dressed up too.

Ahhh...2004...Youngins'

Crocodile, The Crocodile Hunter and His Wife
Thanks Ebay for the costume!
Cargo Khakis, yup they came from my current wardrobe.

Ahh, good times.

I have loved putting together all of these costumes with whatever skill set I had at the time. I know I will be a little sad when I no longer have a say in all the costumes. I am guessing this is my last year with Oldest. The older two are already bucking my idea. So I am sure next year I will have no say.

But it has been one Costume-tastic ride.

Going with the FLO

Insurance anyone???

I forgot to share my fun little Halloween costume with you all. Hehehe...

Hubby and I normally are not big dresser-upers. I hate spending money on creating costumes for us when the Little Men are SO much more fun to dress. This year we had a couples party we got invited to, AND being the newbies in the neighborhood we did not want to bah-humbug it and be the lame ones. SO I came up with a brilliant idea to be the lovely Progressive Insurance girl Flo.

I will admit that the whole costume hinged on the fact if I could get my white pants on. It was touch and go, but with a few hair bands and the lovely apron to hid  my huge fanny, the pants worked. To the pants I added a boys white polo shirt, a quickly made white apron, printed out tags from the progressive websites "dress like Flo" link (yes they have one of those), some fake eyelashes, red lipstick, eyeliner, and a really ratted hair-do.

Ta-da, there you have it. A pregnant Flo the Progressive Insurance Girl.

What was Hubby you ask??? Well he was just about the best "Mayhem" guy ever...you know the suit-wearing-havoc-creating mayhem guy from the Allstate Insurance commercials? He looked AWESOME and everyone knew who we both were right away.

So why no picture of Hubby, or Hubby and I together?

Right after my pictures were taken the babysitter came AND we were already running late. In the craziness, we simply just kind of spaced it. Then I didn't take my camera to the party. When we got home, again, we were so tired we just forgot!!!

SO, I apologize for not being able to show the whole picture...but it was AWESOME.

Man of Steel

Do you guys remember this? Our very own Clark Kent...
This photo was for our Middle Man of Steel's party invite..which party is most likely
going on while you are reading this...help me!

Well, behind Clark Kent is The Man of Steel.

The only Super in our house who can fly...a fact which he reminds the other Supers quite often.

With the ability of flight, comes the need for a cape of course.

I think our Man of Steel thinks he is the leader of all the other Supers.

With all his super powers, who can argue with him? Not me, that is for sure!

Whew, three costumes done...a feat I didn't think I could do. I am glad I did, because I am feel a lot safer with my own Little Supers. What house wouldn't be safe with their own Man of Steel, Wolverine, and Tiny Spiderman!

Our Tiny Spiderman

Yesterday I shared our Oldest superhero, Wolverine. Today it is Littlest's turn. Our littlest Super can be found scaling walls, swinging from web, and combating evil with his AH-dorable face.

His costume has been done the longest. He LOVES it. When you ask him what he is going to be for Halloween he happily declares, "PIDERMAN!" Right after I made it he wore the hat for hours.

SO cute! I know I am biased, but seriously...has there ever been a cuter Spiderman...who knew utter cuteness was a super power???

Even a tiny Spiderman needs a six pack, just a tiny version!

Spiders everywhere, just in case you weren't sure who he was.

I did mention that his super power was cuteness, right?

Just try to resist!

Later today I will share our last Super...I think you guys might already know who he is...

Wolverine in Costume Form

We have a set of Supers at our house. Three Little Men all sporting new super powers and quite impressive six packs. Yes we are saving the world in all kinds of ways over here.

Oldest chose to be Wolverine almost a year ago (we won't mention that as I was sewing this costume he declared he wanted to change to Thor...I nicely said "Not a chance Mister!"). When he chose Wolverine he stated in awe that Wolverine was his favorite super hero...I sighed thinking of the new X-men movies and completely agreed that Wolverine was my favorite super hero too...hehehe...

Anywhoo...

I stressed the most about Oldest's costume, however it turned out great with only one minor sewing crisis concerning the claws...to which after ripping out my hair in attempt I just listened to very wise Hubby and order his claws online. Whew, much better.

Now he is one awesome Wolverine. Man he is not messing around is he!

I dare law-breakers to defy him. I just dare you to mess with him.

Bring it!

Our other Supers are shortly on their way!

It's a Bird...It's a Plane...

We had a photo shoot at our house. The shoot involved one finished costume, one little man suit, a pair of fake glasses, and the most handsome almost 5 year old I know.

I happened to luck out that the party theme Middle chose for this year's party was Superman. Since he had already also chosen that as his costume of choice I was golden for this photo shoot--which was for his party invites.

He was super cooperative and most of the pictures turned out great...

However, try explaining to a four year old how to look brave and strong. Well it is hard, and this is what you get...angry curmudgeon face.

So we stuck with his own cute serious face. Perfect.

With my oh-so-cute Superman photos in hand, I tinkered around in photoshop and made this party invite.

I got the idea from here. Their invitation is WAY adorable and has several more professional touches than mine does.Still, I wanted to see if I could figure out how to make a copy cat invitation and I was pretty happy with what I got.

Now I just have to plan the rest of the party...hahaha.

Costume Central

So someone let me know the other day that it is October. WHAT??? That can't be. I mean wasn't it just the end of August? Who was the punk who skipped September? I don't appreciate that.

Now that I have come to terms with the fact that it is indeed already October, I have to come to the realization that it is that time of year again.

Costume time. Once again it is time for sewing costumes. Every year it seems to get more and more daunting...oh wait, I keep getting more kids to sew for...not to mention the themes...always a theme.

For those of you who know me well, you know that I normally whip my costumes out just a few days weeks before Halloween. This year a wrench was thrown into my plans...I found out last week that our church Halloween party is the 18th...THE 18TH! Ahhhh!

Whew...calm down.

Our costume theme this year has been on the agenda since the end of last Halloween. Knowing the theme for so long, you would think that I would have busted something out sooner. Hahahahahahaha....sigh...haha...

Did the fabric above give our theme away?

How about this picture?

Or this one?

I just have to say that almost everything else has gone to pot while putting these puppies together. See for yourselves...

we have to eat

the Little Men entertain themselves

Littlest doesn't really get the concept of making a costume...
Oh and he is the one who keeps taking his pants off.

I am excited about getting these SUPER costumes done ahead of schedule. Fingers crossed anyway. I am not sure anything will top my exhilaration over last years costumes...

...but I am going to try.

What are your costume plans this year?
