Three Sweepstakes to Still Enter...

Indoor Picnics, Childhood Memories, and Winnie the Pooh
One of our family's very favorite things to do is to have an indoor picnic.
We lay out a big old blanket, gather our plates, and serve up dinner right there on the family room floor. We have been doing this on occasion since Oldest was small. Sometimes it is a special event, like movie night or a birthday. Other times it is a random Tuesday and I am too tired to set the table.
Whatever the reason, our boys really enjoy dinner served indoor picnic style.
I feel and hope that this will be a happy childhood memory for them. I also kind of hope that their future wives don't hate me when they suddenly spread out a blanket and want to have a picnic indoors with the inevitability of having to vacuum right after.
Recently, thanks to Disney, I was able to create another special childhood memory with my children while sharing one of my childhood memories. Together as a little family we sat down at our indoor picnic to watch the 30th anniversary edition of The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh.
My Little Men had never seen the original version of Winnie the Pooh. I was kind of shocked when I realized that. Especially since I can remember so vividly watching it throughout my childhood.
We decided it was only fitting to invite my Little Mens' closest stuffed animal friends to watch the movie along with us and that the movie viewing be done via indoor picnic.
Everyone was mesmerized by the movie.
They were so captivated, in fact, that the food seemed to be forgotten. If you knew my boys, you would realize what a huge deal that is.
Even Bean was enthralled.
I sat there and watched them watch. I sang along, "I'm just a little black rain cloud, hovering under the honey tree. I'm just a little black rain cloud, pay no attention to little me..."
I was reminded as I watched the movie of just how touching a portrayal the movie is of childhood friendship. As an adult I could visibly recognize the childhood joy and innocence found in that movie. Plus it made me remember being that young...
...yes I can remember being young...
I remember watching and wanting to live in a tree. I remember feeling a little scared and timid like Piglet. I remember being a little frightened of the big storm, just like Pooh. I even remember wanting Rabbit to call Tigger back and tell him he can bounce. After all, isn't that what Tigger's do best?
I even remember one of my very good childhood friends (who is still a good friend today) watching with me and I can still hear her voice repeating, "Tut. Tut. Looks like rain."
This movie is so much about imagination and friendship. Both so important in childhood.
I feel I was lucky to have both in my childhood.
Good friends. Hours of using our imaginations. Grand adventures never-ending.
There were doll houses made and constructed on the piano. We choreographed and executed our very own music videos.
In elementary school, there was a small group of us (all girls) that pretended to be a bunch of grumpy old men, old man names included. We would walk around the playground all hunched over with pretend canes grumbling in a way we imagined old men should sound like.
I miss the days of unabashed imaginative play, but I feel fortunate that many of the friends I had during those carefree days of childhood I can still call friends.
Luckily now I am a momma and I have young kids who remind me daily what it is to imagine. I see them play superhero, ninja, spy, inventors, and Star Wars. They build forts. They throw parties for their stuffed animals.
I get to watch the evolution of teeny tiny friendships.
Of the human variety.
And of the furry variety.
My childhood may now be a set of memories, but now I get to witness my own children create their own memories. Helping them make their own memories might just be better than reflecting on my own.

Sour Cream Coffee Cake Cookies
1. A dense and fudgy brownie.
2. Velvety vanilla bean cheesecake
3. Dense and chewy sugar cookies
4. Then...
...crumb-tastic coffee cake
Well, this recipe takes two of my favorite desserts and combines them.
Sugar cookies plus coffee cake (and the best part of the coffee cake might I add...the CRUMB topping) equals best.cookie.ever.
My favorite part of a coffee cake is the crumb part. I have been known to eat the crumb off a third of the cake and then feign ignorance when the bottom of the cake was found topless...er...uh...toppingless.
So basically, a recipe where a sugar cookie (refer to favorite snack #3) is topped with buttery, brown sugary crumb goodness cannot be passed up. This cookie is made even better with addition of sour cream to the sugar cookie mix. Hint, hint...sour cream makes lots of baked things even yummy. Shocking I know, but it is true.
Remember my "I love Coffee Cake" declaration earlier...well my favorite coffee cake is Sour Cream Coffee Cake.
Okay back to the cookie, sorry I just day dreamed about that coffee cake and got a little side tracked.
This Sour Cream Coffee Cake Cookie is my new favorite cookie.
Oh heaven help me.
These cookies were so good.
I mean, seriously, do you see the top of that cookie???
Goosh. So good. Oh wait I think I said that already.
I am already to try and come up with a reason (besides that I can't stop thinking about them) to bake them again.
Do you like coffee cake as much as I do? What about sugar cookies?
Feel free to indulge and make yourself a dozen...or two.
You won't be sorry.
Sour Cream Coffee Cake Cookies
adapted from Oh Bite It
printable recipe
1 sugar cookie mix
(1 egg)
(1/4 cup softened unsalted butter)
1/4 cup sour cream
crumb topping:
1/2 cup brown sugar
1/2 cup flour
1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
4 tablespoons softened unsalted butter
brown sugar glaze:
1/2 cup brown sugar
1/2 teaspoon vanilla
2 teaspoons water
Make the cookies, according to the package with the egg, but instead of using a whole stick of butter, substitute half of the butter for sour cream.
While the cookies are baking, mix the crumb ingredients together with a fork.
Pull the cookies out of the oven 5 minutes early. Make a small indent in the cookie, pressing lightly in the center with the back of a lightly greased spoon. Press softly so that the spoon does not go through to the cookie sheet.
Fill the indent generously with some of the crumb mixture. Put the cookies back in for the rest of the time.
While they are baking for the last 5 minutes, make the glaze by mixing all the ingredients together until they are fulling combined and smooth.
Once the cookies are down, let them cool on the baking sheet for 10 minutes. Then drizzle over the brown sugar glaze. Let them cool for another 10 minutes.
Remove to a cooling rack.
You can eat them right away, but they are absolutely insane the next day...if you can wait that long.

Good-Bye Rough Reptile Skin! ($100 SpaFinder Gift Card Sweepstakes)
I have dry skin.
Like scaly rough and dry.
Add to my naturally dry skin: washing dishes, scrubbing toilets, laundry, and living somewhere terribly, terribly dry. It is like the whammy of all whammies.
In order for my skin to not resemble that of a dried out lizard in the desert, I must have a big bottle of lotion on hand at all times.
Rich, creamy, moisturizing, gloriously smoothing lotion.
I need a little something special to unlock my softer side.
Just because my life is full and has its rough moments doesn't mean that my skin had to be rough.
Hello softer smoother skin.
The key to softer smoother skin is in the hydration and the moisturizing. Suave Skin Solutions Lotions are dermatologist-tested and provide 24-hour moisture to your skin. You can double up the moisture by also using Suave Naturals Body Wash. There are so many fun and fresh scents available. I love the Creamy Cocoa Butter and Shea Body Wash.

Slow Cooker Saturday: Shredded Barbeque Chicken Sliders
Any Summer day can be made better with some barbeque chicken, especially a crazy busy Summer day.
I have been a little lax in the cooking department this Summer. We have been ultra busy and all of the sudden the end of the day is there and then BAM my kids start saying they are hungry and before I know it that sneaky little devil dinnertime has snuck on up me.
On the days where I anticipate the impending need for evening nourishment, I bring out the slow cooker and start making dinner before the crazy descends.
Some slow cooker Barbeque Chicken seemed the perfect answer for a busy Summer day.
These little sliders are so scrumptious.
Plus they were very little trouble to whip out.
Cook the chicken slowly and all day long with little to no supervision.
Then shred it up. Soak it up in some sauce. Serve on a roll. Slather in more sauce.
And now it is eating time.
Another Slow Cooker Saturday success. Woot! Woot!
Slow Cooker Shredded Barbeque Sauce
adapted from America's Test Kitchen
3 chicken breasts
2 teaspoons chili powder
1 teaspoon paprika
1 Tablespoon brown sugar
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper
1/4 teaspoon pepper
1 1/2 cups brown sugar barbeque sauce (your favorite brand)
Mix the chili powder, paprika, brown sugar, salt, cayenne pepper, and pepper in a small bowl. Rub the mixture evenly over the chicken and then put the chicken in the slow cooker. Pour 1/2 cup of the barbeque sauce over the chicken. Cook on low for 4-6 hours until chicken is done.
Take the chicken out and shred and set aside. Skim the fat off the leftover liquid. Mix 1 cup of the liquid with the 1 cup of barbeque sauce. Toss the chicken with the mixture.
Serve on slider rolls.
