Double Chocolate Oreo Skillet Brownies

We are almost done with the first month of the year, which means that you have in all likelihood earned yourself a cheat day. A whole month of sticking to your New Year's Resolution calls for a celebration of sorts.

A brownie celebration to be exact. When I want to celebrate, I always do so with brownies. So basically I am saying that you should probably too.

Since I am recommending a cheat day, I would suggest you do it with these Double Chocolate Oreo Skillet Brownies.

This is the kind of dessert that is SO easy to make you can basically just throw it together. Bake it. Slap some ice cream on top, and eat. Heck you can even forgo the plates and just dig in family style to the skillet's itself.

Plate. Skillet. Either way, it is delicious. In fact, Oldest informed me, "If Heaven had a taste, it would taste like these."

Can't argue with that son. Can't argue with that.

Boy Approved Valentine T-shirts

Earlier this week I shared 15 Boy Approved Valentines. Today I am sharing a round up of Boy Approved Valentine T-shirts.

As a Mom of all boys, I know first hand how hard it can be to come up with fun holiday shirts that are boy approved. Especially Valentine's Day shirts. I mean how does one put all that lovey dovey stuff into a cool, somewhat masculine shirt just right for a little man.

Years ago I decided I was just going to make my own shirts for them. It has been fun coming up with different boy approved valentine shirts. I have also found a lot of other cute shirts out there for boys. So I rounded them all up in this post.

You're welcome.

Some are shirts you can DIY yourselves and a few are ones you could buy. Make or buy, they are all cute...er, uh I mean studly.

15 Boy-Approved Valentines

We have less than a month love birds. Less than one month to bust out a ridiculous pile of classroom valentines for those cute kiddos in our lives. Every year I try to come up with at least one new valentine idea for one of my boys. If I am feeling particularly productive I make new ones for all of my boys who are in school.

This year I will have all four. ALL FOUR. ACK! I might need some help and inspiration. Are you feeling the same way?

Our house is full of boys. Since we are a house of all that is rough and tough and smelly, I have to make an effort to make classroom valentines that are not too lovey and sappy.

Boys. They just don't appreciate that kind of stuff.

I rounded up 15 Boy-Approved Valentines that are perfect for the classroom, preschool, or just the neighborhood kids. My boys would happily hand out any of these (several they have in the past). Most of them all have printables and ideas. There might be one or two that show you how to create your own personalized one.

Each Boy-Approved Valentine on this list is fun, easy, and sure to be a big hit with their friends.

Hope this list of Boy-Approved Valentines gives you some ideas and inspiration for Valentine's Day this year.

Look out for my the Valentine's I am making this year too. Also, there will be a Valentine's Day T-shirt round up. You all know how I like a good Valentine's Day themed t-shirt.

Handmade Gingham Quilt

My heart wants me to be a quilter. Like yearns and pines to be a quilter. My brain and my attention span have other ideas. I am in awe of people who whip out a gorgeous quilt in a matter of days. Heck I am in awe of someone who finishes a quilt in a month.

Up until this point I have really only sewn one quilt. My second "quilt" really wasn't a quilt at all. Each time I learned something new, but I still didn't really feel like I had a clue what I was doing. Plus, lining up those dang pieces so they match perfectly is really hard. Quilting is a really daunting endeavor for me.

That might explain why after buying the fabric for this quilt, it took me two years to start this quilt. Notice I didn't say make. I couldn't seem to get the courage to make it. I finally decided that this year was the year I would make it.

I had seen a "gingham" quilt on Pinterest a few years ago and instantly fell in love with it. I bought white fabric and two coordinating shades of pink. I bought a lighter and darker shade. I cut out a lot of squares and arranged them in a dark pink/light pink pattern and a light pink/white pattern. This way once arranged they made up a faux gingham pattern.

I found this adorable Dutch inspired windmill fabric to go on the back. I didn't quite have enough for the entire back. Remember that whole I bought the fabric years ago and only now started making it. I hadn't calculated right. Okay so basically I just guessed how much I would need. Hence that whole, my brain isn't meant to quilt.

Fast forward a few years and I can't find anymore of this print. I wasn't too worried about it though because I was planning on finding a print to make the binding out of. This way I just got the same print to make binding out of and to add to the back.

Some firsts for me with this quilt. I used spray basting. Huzzah. It was amazing. It made it SOO much easier to assemble. I used all the helpful information I could gather from Diary of a Quilter. She is kind of a genius and I wish I were her.

I also made and used my own bias tape to bind. ALSO I actually hand-sewed the binding. Say what? Yep. Well at least the front side. I have never done that before. It took awhile, but it was definitely worth it.

My heart really, really wants to make another quilt pronto. Alas, my brain is already screaming just thinking of all the precision and calculating. So it might be another two years. Haha!
