24 wks, Happy Bday, Strep, and the ER

Here is a fun run down of this past weekends events. Enjoy, we sure did!

FIRST: I am officially 6 months pregos now. Similar to another post, I have been trying to take a picture for several days but it wasn't working out. So this morning in all our post weekend trauma, I decided to heck with it, who cares if I am in my jammies for this one AND who cares if the picture causes a few "oh geez now you can totally tell she is pregnant!", let's just take this thing. If you will notice, I smiled in this picture, as was requested. Also I promise a friend that I would not lead into this picture with any disparaging remarks about myself...so as hard as that is here ya'all go (all I ask is that there aren't any posts that remark to the like "it's about time you start showing" etc.

SECOND: Happy late bday hubby of mine.

Can you believe you are so wise at the ripe old age of 32 (don't worry I thought it was 31 until he had to help me with my math!). He is not at all daunted by another year in age. In fact, he thinks that being older makes him more credible as a therapist. We had a good night away thanks to his parents. The only bummer was that Spencer started getting sick. Which leads to...

THIRD: Strep! I got a call Friday morning from Spencer's parents asking me if the boys had been sick. Well, not really, but obviously they were now. So I now had three sick boys to worry about. We figured it was just colds all around but when we got to Gram and Papa's Jack was doing horrible. Cole was fine to this point. So we took him to a Walgreen's Minute Clinic (PS LOVE THESE THINGS). Sure enough he had strep. We then tested Spencer, sure enough he had strep. That night was a holy night of misery! I slept with Jack and Spencer ended up sleeping with Cole, who got increasingly worse. In fact, he had a really hard time breathing. But thanks to a tidbit of info from the NP at the clinic, we were able to calm the breathing down by having Cole breath in the really cold night air. Well, that only worked one night. Which leads to...

FOURTH: ER. Last night we hunkered both boys in Jacks room since we only have one humidifier. Cole was so excited. He said it was practice for when they share rooms when the baby comes. All was well until 2 am. Cole woke up horribly upset and completely unable to catch his breath. We tried the cold again. We tried steam from a shower and nothing absolutely nothing help him able to breath. SO at 2:30 we bundled up a hysteric little boy, not breathing really well, and I hauled him to the ER. Spencer needed to stay with Jack so I was off by myself. Not really a big deal except that the Children's Hospital is in a sketchy part of town (and that is not just my version of sketchy, that is really sketchy). Thank heavens all Cole has is croup. We were there for almost three hours, but well worth it to get him a dose of steroids and on the road to breathing well again. He did so well and was so brave. He came right home and slept for 4 hours.

All the boys are doing well. We know we may have a rough night ahead still. The ER doc said that the steroids may not fully work for up to 36 hours (yikes!). BUT I am grateful it isn't serious AND that we have the power of prayer to help give health and comfort. AND, knock on whatever, I don't feel the slightest bit sick!

i FEEL FOR YOU.

In one years time, Gabe had croup 8 times. Although only 4 of those times ended in an ER visit (because our doctor ended up giving up steroids to have in our fridge at home) we took him to the ENT. They stuck a scope up his nose and down his throat (very pleasant, you can imagine) and we discovered he had acid reflux. We put him on medication for it and he hasn't had croup since.

So....heads up on that if it becomes a persistent problem.

Good Luck!

Oh my gosh you look so good you idiot!! I remember when I was pregnant though and would warn people about how ugly I looked in the picture I put up, even though people would always tell me I was just being hard on myself. And you look NORMAL for 6 months pregnant!

Well, where do I begin?
Holy Crap people....
1-You are the cutest little 6-monther around! Plus, who says p.j.'s aren't perfectly legit at all times...even to late night trips to the grocery store!
2-Happy birthday Spencer...man, you're old.
3-Strep. Crap-o-la! They do say this is the worst time of year for it...sorry that it had to be all your boys (especially on the "hot" weekend getaway *wink* *wink*).
4-Is Cole doing better? I can't imagine you venturing out in the middle of the night to "shady-town!" Glad you weren't mugged or something. Croup can be scary, especially when they can't catch their breaths. I hope he is doing better and the steroids help.
5-If you need ANYTHING let me know! Even if you need me to run to the store or something...just call.
And lastly, I'll pray for you to not get sick...'cause let's just face it, that would be hellish!

Wow, you guys have had an eventful week. What horrible in-laws we are and didn't even send Spencer his birthday card! We will make it up when we come to visit. I am glad the boys are feeling better...and I pray you don't get sick. ITs all those blasted vitamins we pump into our bodies! haha Love you guys!

wow buddy...i have to admit that i do and don't envy you. i do because, let's face it, i wish i had your boobs and lack of back fat at this stage of pregnancy...i don't because, let's face it, who wants croup and strep and lack of precious sleep at this stage in the game? yikes, i'm sure you handled it like the superhero you are, however. way to go! love ya, miss ya, hope all is well my friend.

Sorry but I will add "you don't look like you are three months away from having a baby!" You look terrific!!! Sounds like a super eventful weekend! Hope they feel better. Jack seems too young to have strep. Poor little guys. I'm glad you haven't seen any signs of strep yourself, it can be dangerous for the baby.So be careful! Good luck....

You look amazing. I was about five times that big at 24 weeks pregnant. I think I might just cry.

On a side note...yikes about all of the sicknesses and sketchy ER visits! Glad everyone seems to be doing better now.
