In a Nutshell: Yellowstone National Park

We finally made a family trip to Yellowstone National Park.

The park was gloriously breathtaking. We had such a great time. The park is huge and full of amazing and beautiful things.
The trip was a little touch and go in the beginning. A troublesome air conditioner and a necessary repair delayed our trip by a couple of hours. Instead of getting there mid morning we didn't get there until lunch.

After a couple hours in the car and being asked 100 times, "Are we there yet?", we finally rolled into the park. We orchestrated this little picture, minus Bean who was in the car crying and with an addition of our favorite girlie Richelle.

We were all glad to finally be there...

Well maybe all except Little, he was a little put out at first.

That was until we had to stop the car for a traveling herd of Bison.

There were tons and tons of them on the side of the road and then passing right in front of us.

Sidenote: Little did get back in his car seat before we started rolling again.

Our first stop was Old Faithful.

We got there with just enough time to hit restrooms and head over to see the geyser.
That Old Faithful was pretty awesome. The boys were impressed and insisted on staying to watch it die down.

Someone did not want their picture taken. He must have felt we were interrupting his geyser watching.

We ate a packed picnic lunch close to Old Faithful.

Then we were off to some hot spring areas. Not the swimming in hot springs, but the burn the flesh of your hand kind. Needless to say we very carefully followed the advice to not walk off the plank sidewalk.

The hot springs bordered the lake. So pretty.

We even took a break for Middle to practice his reading.

The boys really hung in there.

Bean spent every moment out of the car wrapped up to me. Therefore, he spent every moment out of the car sleeping. The other boys trooped along, only taking breaks here and there.

We had a marvelous time as a family.

It was some good outdoorsy and up-to-our-kneepits-in-nature kind of fun.

We spent a whole day making some breathtaking memories.

We ended our park visit by getting out of the car and getting close to this giant elk (at least I am pretty sure it is an elk).

With excitement our first trip to Yellowstone was over. After a quick trip for dinner at 9 o'clock at night, we headed home for our multi-hour road trip. Where the only sleeper was Bean. The Little Men must have been too full of the day's wonders to rest their eyes.

We can't wait to go back.
