Teacher Christmas Gift

Right now I am lucky and only have one teacher to buy for. What this means is that I can go a little above what I would normally do.

I have known for months that I was going to use Anna's GREAT tutorial for this gathered clutch, I heart her. I also knew that I wanted to toss in a pair of earrings from Just Enough Style her shop is closed temporarily due to holiday and new baby...CONGRATS.

With the left over scraps I sewed a little bag for the earrings.

I also added in a goodie...what present is complete without some kind of delicious treat?? We made monster cookies...recipe and packaging post will be on Thursday.

All together a delightful little thank you for Little Man's awesome teacher.

And her thank you to me...letting my kid out of school for the next 2 weeks.

Hey I Can Do That-Wee One Jean Skirt

Remember THESE...

I decided that they would look sweet with one of these little jean skirts.

I got the tutorial from Homemade by Jill. It was pretty easy to follow. I did have some confusion on how to attach the waistband to the skirt, so I kind of fudged my way around it.

It turned out pretty stinking cute. If you have any old jeans taking up room in your closet...go ahead make one of these.

Hey I Can Do That--Baby Shoes

FIRST- Thank you to all you lovelies who gave me the great feedback on my puppets, it pretty much made my day...SO...

OF course I will get that tutorial out. I am hoping for sometime next week ( if I could just get over this cold)...so keep checking back.

Now on to my "Hey I Can Do That" Saturdays. It has been awhile...but they are back...

A couple of weeks ago I voted for this craft over at So You Think You Are Crafty. I have been wanting to make baby shoes FOREVER. I always talked myself out of it because...well it looks hard and they are so tiny.

This week I decided to throw caution to the wind and make some. While my first attempt may not be perfect, I am thinking the sweet baby wearing these will surely pull people's eyes away from the clumsily hand-stitched heel.

For the most part I found this pattern easy to follow. I did do some things a little different.

Things I did differently--

I sewed the heel lining to the main shoe lining before sewing on the main sole.

I did not use interfacing because I was using a heavier fabric for the shoes.

I sewed the velcro to the strap BEFORE sewing and turning out so you don't see the stitches. I also did the same for the velcro on the outside of the shoe.

I loved this project. Let's just say I have more shoes already cut out and ready to sew.

Hey I Can Do That...T-shirt Hat

This was originally shown as a tutorial by At Second Street for Ucreate.

I stashed the tutorial away, along with a couple of hubby's old shirts. It just took me a month of giving myself several peptalks... "you can do it", "it will turn out", "you can use math", blah, blah, blah.

Today I got 'er done. YAY!

Funny thing this was supposed to be for Littlest Little Man, but the "you can use math" hit a glitch and it ended up fitting perfectly for Middle Little Man.

I totally recommend trying this. I have plans for some more hats this weekend. My favorite part was finding a t-shirt that had a print already on it so that I didn't have to spend the extra time to embellish it.

So today I found out "Hey I can Do That!"

Mmmm what shall I try next??? Any suggestions?

Hey I Can Do That--Father's Day Gift

I saw a version of this project last week on the blog Bargain Hoot. Immediately I stored it away in my brain. Her project used a blank background and a bigger phrase. It is really cute, you should go and check it out. For my version I chose to use photos of my boys, edited to black and white, for the background instead of a blank white page.

Then I picked things I wanted to say and searched out the needed scrabble tiles.

Another difference in my process... I did not worry about right angles and I didn't have scotch tape, so I just individually glued and placed the tiles on. I managed to eyeball it pretty straight. This is that whole fly-by-the-seat-of-my-pants part of me.

This was a super easy and quick project...you could totally still pull it off today.

A perfect little homemade Father's Day gift.

Hey I Can Do That! Diaper Caddy

Welcome to my 2nd installment of "Hey I Can Do That" aka "Hey why don't you actually make something from the growing lists of tutorials and projects you get from other people"

This week it came from a recent tutorial from noodlehead for a diaper pouch. Right away I knew I wanted to do it...here is a little secret though...

I have never sewn a lining in anything.

Another little secret...

The thought of attempting it made me want to hurl.

I decided to push through it because these are way too cute. Hey and you know what...

I Can Do That!

Behold my loverly diaper caddy, as I call it.

This tutorial was SUPER easy to follow. I did change a couple of things. I did not use linen after seeing it was 14.99 a yard at my local fabric store. I decided to see if I could find something else.

Once again, Target to the rescue. They had these napkins and pillow slipcovers for CRAZY clearance prices. For less than $4 I got all this. It was enough to make two, with some scraps left over.

I also made a fabric strap instead of using the cotton webbing, simply because I didn't want to make an extra trip to the store. I think it turned out just as cute.

So now I know I can do a lining, and I can check a project off my list (don't worry I will probably find 10 more tomorrow). Plus I have a cute baby present for my son's teacher (ps if you are reading this SURPRISE, this is your gift).

Have a great weekend!
And if you need a new project on your list, head over to noodlehead and make up one of these.

Hey I Can Do That!

Are you tired of your long list of projects that you bookmark
or save from other blogs that grows but never seems to get done?
Do you look at them and think someday I will try, but then they get pushed behind
another project you find? Or are you like me and the first time you see them you think "Hey I Can Do That", but then you talk yourself out of it not wanting to mess up someone else's glorious work?

Well, no more! People have put their projects out there to get done...and gall darn it,
I am at least going to try. So welcome to Hey I Can Do That! Saturdays, where I am going to show you projects from blog land that I am going to finally just do. And hey I will show you even if
my attempts fail miserably...but hopefully they won't!

Remember this from I am a Baker

It really is quite splendid. Truth be told everything she does is really quite splendid. Several posts ago I lamented that I wanted someone to make this for me for Mother's Day. I know I am such a whiner.

Well hubby was traveling the week of mother's day and last weekend was the first time we could celebrate it. And guess what?

Hubby sure as shootin' made me one of these...

Our version was a little different because we didn't have six inch pans, so he used 8 inch pans and we kept it at six layers instead of 12. We also didn't have red food coloring...I forgot to go through my stash and check...we also went a little crazy with the food coloring. Okay I did...this was my one area of helping and I was a little heavy handed with the food coloring. So the cake is a little bright.

We also put the cool whip in between each layer instead of the simple syrup. I am not sure we would do this again, it made the cake more slippery.

Hubby did a great job. The cake was DELICIOUS. It didn't take him as long as I thought it would either. So go ahead and try it. We did, and now we know "Hey I (he) Can Do That"!

So I guess this was a more of Hey Hubby Can Do That, but I helped...a little.

So Hey You Can Do That too...

I would love to see your blog land projects. Let me know what you have done!
