Duh...I am a Good Mom

NOT.

You ever have those moments? Do you have a lot of those moments? I seem to be having a lot of them lately.

Remember this new development in our lives-

Oldest Little Man has been doing great under his new treatment. We have heard no cough, no wheeze, no anything but good healthy breathing for about a month now. Well that is until the last day or two. His coughs started coming back and he seems to be out of breath.

I was a little confused, but chalked it up to the fact that he was outside most the day Monday and then outside  Tuesday for a school outdoor extravaganza of fun...you know the kind of fun...stations, bouncy houses, running around...

This morning his cough was bad still.
Sigh.
Why?

'Cause I am an awesome mom (can you pick up on the sarcasm?), that is why.

Upon cutting up a newspaper for patterns I came across this article from today...

Yep it was hot here the last couple of days, but yesterday (if you will remember the outside fun day of running and frolicking) was super hot. It was more than just hot I guess. As a mom to an asthma kid I should have known this before reading it in the newspaper...

AWESOME. That is me one awesome mom. I guess you all who nominated me for Mother of the Year better call the office and tell them you were wrong and that I need to be black listed. When they make the award for Duh-Mom-You-Should-Have-Known-That, feel free to nominate me again.

I guess now I know...
and knowing is half the battle...

Oh STOP! This is a new world to you...you'll learn what environments he does well in and what times its best to stay inside! Don't worry!!!! :)

FYI- for me...it was extreme heat/humidity, and the cold was really bad also (playing outside on snow days did not sit well with my lungs!) Just thought I'd pass along what I knew :)

No.No.No. I got one for you .... my daughter (6) has tree nut allergies ... you know, not supposed to eat nuts or anything. Being the SUPER Mom that I am ... long story, short, well, I'm making pincushion, need filler so I run to pet supply store and buy ... wait for it .... crushed WALNUT SHELLS for filler! Got out to the family in the car and after several choice words from DH and my total DUH moment .... I returned shells to store and never purchased them again. Stuff happens, we learn and wait for the next DUH moment as moms. You're the best mom you can be, so go easy on yourself!

I lose the Mother of the Year award by about noon on January 1st each year. Don't be so hard on yourself. A) 90 degree weather in May in OHIO? Who would even think? and B)you are a "new asthma kid mom". Learning curve, baby.

I know how you feel. We're still adjusting to my oldest having asthma now too. I went ahead and let him participate in the day of fun at school last week. It was really hot here in TX. I just made sure to bring cold water with me and the inhaler just in case he needed it. Hang in there Mom. We all have those days.

Don't beat yourself up over this. Having two children with asthma I have learned that it takes a long time to figure out what triggers it (it is different for each one) and how best to help. And we still have problems...

Don't blame yourself! I don't have a history nor do I know anything about asthma... but my son has it and I had no clue. We found out when he was 3. BUT, he's allergic to everything outside. His is more because of his allergies. He had eczema from day one, then leads to allergies, then leads to Asthma. All stuff I didn't know. Don't beat yourself up! We can't know everything, and we definitely don't know the medical journal by heart :)

You are way to hard on yourself my darling girl!!!!! It took me forever to figure out what in the environment affected your brother.

You are a super mom! Do you think it would have gone any better if you had told him he couldn't participate in fun day??? That would have gone over so well...NOT! You just have to figure out a good balance, and that will take some time...you are new at this remember?

Thanks Barb...you are right...I couldn't have told him no, well I could have but then he would still be whining about it!
